COVID-19 Relief

COVID-19 has affected residents across the state.  If you have been financially affected due to COVID-19 and need assistance with your water and/or sewer bill, below are some programs that are offering help.

H20 Foundation Emergency Water and/or Sewer Bill Assistance 

The H20 Foundation will provide emergency assistance to individuals and/or families who are customers of Birmingham Water Works in Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Walker or Blount County.  These funds are specifically used to support individuals and/or families (regardless of age) impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. One-time assistance in the amount up to $800 may be awarded.  A total of $200,000 in assistance may be awarded under this program.  For more information and eligibility guidelines, visit our H20 COVID Assistance Program page. The Birmingham Emergency Rental Assistance Program

Birmingham renters who’ve fallen behind in their rent and/or utility bills because of COVID-19 will soon be able to apply for relief, thanks to the City of Birmingham’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program. Information on the program may be found at https://www.birminghamal.gov/renthelp. This program is made possible thanks to more than $6.2 million in federal funding. This program is ONLY for customers who live within the city limits of Birmingham.

 

Emergency Rental Assistance Alabama

ERA Alabama has emergency funds available to help Alabama renters pay rent and utility bills (including past due rent and utilities).  On February 12, 2021, Governor Kay Ivey authorized AHFA to implement the State’s new COVID-19 emergency rental assistance program. Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) Alabama is funded entirely by a $263 million congressional grant under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 (the “Act”). Information on the program may be found at https://www.ahfa.com/renters/emergency-rental-assistance-alabama.  The online portal to apply can be found at www.eraalabama.com.
