On Monday, Aug. 7, 2023, we hosted an on-site press conference to announce our acquisition of EnviroLab, our state-of-the-art testing facility. We were joined by Birmingham Water Works executives and city officials. Birmingham City Council President Wardine Alexander greeted our staff and praised our investment and dedication to providing clean, affordable drinking water to all the residents and businesses in the surrounding areas. Birmingham Water Works General Manager Michael Johnson announced, “this move is historic for our mission.”
Birmingham Water Works proudly serves high-quality drinking water to more than 770,000 people in the City of Birmingham and five counties.
In a national survey, the City of Birmingham’s water system received a stellar rating of 95% for overall water quality, surpassing many other major cities. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and expertise of the BWW team in maintaining stringent quality standards.
The EnviroLab will conduct over 100,000 water quality tests each year to ensure the quality and safety of our drinking water. The Birmingham Water Works EnviroLab is certified by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
